Singin' in the Rain - 10th-14th May 2016

Canterbury Operatic Society's 2016 show was the stage adaptation of one of the most loved film musicals. Singin' in the Rain came complete with a whole host of umbrellas, feathers and tap shoes as well as live rain on stage during the title number.

With direction and choreography by David Street and musical direction by Diana Whybrow, this show featured the welcome return of several performers who had not been on stage with us for many years as well as many of our regular members and newcomers.

Comments from staff from East Kent college: "The Canterbury Operatic and Dramatic Society gave an excellent performance of Singing in the Rain at the Marlowe Theatre. The four main leads produced top quality vocals that would have been at home on the London stage while the rest of the cast provided wonderful support – including the stage hands who put together a special platform and real rain for the ‘Singing in the Rain’ sequence.

To ensure the cast all looked their best help was at hand from students from East Kent College’s Hair and Media Make up Level 2 course at Broadstairs. The 16 students attended every performance on a rota system with nine students being on site each time. They all said that actually working in a real theatre added an extra dimension to their training and was a great experience."
