The Mikado - 20th-22nd April 2017

The_Mikado

In 2017, we returned to Gilbert and Sullivan to perform our take on The Mikado. It turned out to be a winning production - literally, as we were awarded Best Traditional Musical 2017 by NODA South East.

We reunited director John McCrae and musical director Diana Whybrow from our 2015 production of The Pirates of Penzance. This time, they were joined by Courtney Jones as choreographer. Together, they created a red, white and blue take on this musical classic, transposed from Japan to the very English Titipu-on-Sea.

With our show taking place just days after Theresa May called a snap general election, the political satire of the show became even more relevant than it already was. Audience members loved the satirical humour and left the theatre having had a most enjoyable evening.
