Canterbury Operatic Society has been performing shows and concerts in the Canterbury area for over 100 years.

Whether you like performing or prefer to be out of the limelight doing vital work backstage or front of house, we welcome new members warmly.  Please get in contact!

Four of our recent productions (The Pirates of Penzance, The Pajama Game and Into the Woods from 2009-2011 and Sweeney Todd from 2014) were awarded Accolades of Excellence by NODA South East and our 2017 production of The Mikado was awarded Best Traditional Musical. We aim to build on this standard with each new performance.

Productions at the redeveloped Marlowe Theatre have been My Fair Lady (2019), Oklahoma! (2018), The Mikado (2017), Singin' in the Rain (2016), The Pirates of Penzance (2015), Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd (2014), Anything Goes (2013) and Guys and Dolls (2012). We also perform concerts and hold social events.

About us

Our 2018 show was Oklahoma!, which ran from 12th-14th April 2018 at the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury. Click the show logo for more info about this production.

Canterbury Operatic Society are excited to confirm that our show for Spring 2020 will be Kipps: The New Half a Sixpence Musical. This show was highly successful in a recent London run, and we will be one of the first amateur groups to perform it. It retains the well-known songs from Half a Sixpence, augmented by new music by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe and a fresh script from Julian Fellowes.

We can't wait to get started on the show, which will be performed at the Marlowe Theatre - watch this space for info about rehearsals and for news of when the tickets go on sale!

Our show for 2019, My Fair Lady, was a roaring success at the Marlowe Theatre, with incredible feedback from our audiences. Photos and reviews to follow soon.
